Hotel Credit Card Lock Maintenance

Hotel RFID locks are rapidly becoming the industry standard. The Hotel Card Lock System (HCS) was developed by combining features of traditional hotel card access locks with new technologies such as biometric authentication and smartcard access. Keyless entry cards are now used instead of keycards, and are rapidly gaining in popularity for hotel operations. Traditional hotel card access locks were notoriously difficult to code, requiring specialized knowledge and complex implementation procedures, such as in the case of hotels that had multiple rooms. Holographic image-based smart cards provided a simpler, easier alternative, and also simplified management, replacing paper checks and manual entry with a more convenient, efficient, and secure alternative.

Hotel card locks provide the best option when you have multiple rooms and need multiple keys to gain access to your room or to your hotel room. A typical hotel room key may be compromised or stolen by a guest who has easy access to a front desk. If you require the use of a hotel card lock system to gain access to your hotel room, you will need to provide your guest with a secondary key. For example, you might have an emergency exit lock installed, and provide a second key to the front desk in case of a malfunction or emergency exit. The hotel card lock system will then automatically lock all your other locks.

Some hotels are not covered by traditional key cards and require the use of a hotel card lock system for guest access purposes. In these cases, the front desk will provide a second, hard copy of your guest's identification so they can prove their identity to the front desk clerk before they can enter the establishment. This is often inconvenient for a guest who needs quick access to their room, but it is usually much more secure than using a key or access code. You can still use the traditional method of card access by printing out the identification or use a card reader on your computer.

Some of the newer methods of securing your front doors include biometric solutions and RFID locks. A biometric solution uses fingerprints or iris patterns to gain access. The drawback to this is that it is usually not foolproof because criminals can manipulate the system and print fake fingerprints. An example of an RFID lock would be a thumb scan that could be used to gain access to a front desk safe or a safe deposit box. The advantage to these types of locks is that they can be operated with a low battery. They do not require any wiring or additional hardware to be installed.

Hotel card locks that use a low battery alarm are also available. These systems work by detecting movement around the door. If the sensor is triggered, the locking mechanism automatically engages. An example of a low battery alarm system would be a built in alarm on a credit card payment terminal. This type of system would work when the terminal was used for payments and when the battery was drained.

An important consideration for all types of hotel rfid locks maintenance is the proper lubrication of the mechanisms. A grease based lube should always be used on the sliding bolt contacts. Lubrication helps to prevent premature damage and wear to moving parts. It also increases the lifetime of the lock components.
